Networks in Motion – Powerline Technology
This forum is hosted by TRENDnet’s Product Management department and designed to answer popular networking questions.
Question: What is Powerline technology?
Answer: Acting as an alternative to wireless networking, Powerline transmits network signals over existing electrical lines. Connect a TRENDnet Powerline adapter to an existing networked router and then plug the unit into any electrical socket. The adapter transmits a network signal over existing electrical power lines for distances up to 980 feet (300m).
Question: Is it true that not all Powerline products work together? Answer: Correct. Not all Powerline products work together. Two primary chipset manufacturers, DS2 and Intellon, are not currently interoperable. Additionally, older 85Mbps Powerline products may not work with newer 200Mbps products.
Question: What type of chipset do you use in your Powerline products? Answer: TRENDnet has a long history of working closely with Intellon. Chipsets from other manufacturers have been known to overheat, making TRENDnet’s decision to use Intellon chipsets an easy one.
