Self Certificates are Certificates which are issued to you. To add a new certificate, follow this procedure:

  1. On the Self Certificates screen, click the "New Request" button to generate a new request.
  2. Input the required data, and click "Next".
  3. The next screen presents your data in the format required by the CA. (Certification Authority). You need to use this data to apply for, and obtain, a new Certificate. You should Copy this data (and save it, if necessary) and use it when requesting a Certificate from a CA.
  4. Click "Finish" to return to the Self Certificates screen. Your request will be listed under Certficate Requests.
  5. When you have obtained (downloaded) your new Certificate, select the Request related to this Certificate (from the Self Certificate Requests list) and click the the "Upload Certificate" button.
  6. You can then select the certificate file, and upload it to this device.
  7. The new Certificate will then be listed under Active Certificates.

Self-Certificate Request (Screen 1)
Name Enter a name to identify this Certificate. This name is used only to help you keep track of your Certificates
Subject This is the name which other organizations will see as the Holder (owner) of this Certificate. This should be your registered business name or official company name. Generally, all Certificates should have the same value in the Subject field.
Hash Algorithm Select the desired option:
  • MD5
  • SHA1
Signature
Algorithm
Select the desired option:
  • DSS
  • RSA
Signature
Key Length
Select the desired option:
  • 512
  • 1024
  • 2048

Larger key sizes give improved security, but may impact performance.

 

Self Certificate Request - Screen 2

This screen formats and presents your Self Certificate request data in the form which the CA requires.

Certificate Details
This section shows the data which you provided on the previous screen. Please check this data before continuing, and ensure it it is correct.

Data to supply to CA
This panel displays the request data for submission to the CA. To use this data:
  1. Copy this data (including "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----" and "-----END CERTIFICATE REQUEST-----"). If necessary, paste it into a text editor such as Notepad, and save it as a file.
  2. Connect to the CA's web site.
  3. Start the Self Certificate request procedure.
  4. When prompted for the request data, copy this data to the CA's form.
  5. Submit the CA's form.
  6. If there are no problems, the Certificate will then be issued, and you will be able to download the Certificate file.
After you have copied or saved this data, click "Finish" to return to the "Self Certificates" screen.
This request will be listed under Certficate Requests.
When you have obtained (downloaded) your new Certificate, select the Request related to this Certificate, and click the "Upload Certificate" button to upload the certificate file to this device.
