Yes it is possible to create multiple VLANs and have each one act independent of each other while still sharing a common port.  Basically a VLAN is treated like its own subnet and those assigned to that group are the one able to communicate within it.  One can be assured there will be no leakage of information from one group to another.  So after groups are created you can also have the groups assigned to one common port such as an uplink port that will allow all groups internet.
