Special Applications
This section allows you make specific inbound ports/services to become accessible from the Internet to computers and devices on your network by activating a trigger port. This feature is also known as port triggering. For specific applications on computers or devices, initial communication is made outbound to the Internet on a specific port which is known as a trigger port. Once the trigger port is activated, the assigned inbound ports will automatically be forwarded to the computer or device that activated the trigger port in order to allow the specific application to make use of additional features or ports/services required for these ports. Another protocol that has automated this configuration process for special applications is UPnP (Universal Plug and Play). UPnP allows the application and the router to determine the configuration required and does not require any additional user configuration.
