What is IGMP Snooping?
FAQ ID: 1787 Product: TEG-424WSUpdated:1/8/2009 6:50:16 PM
Internet Group Membership Protocol (IGMP) is a feature that allows the Switch to perform intelligent multicast forwarding by examining the contents of each frame's Layer 2 MAC header. Once the Switch sees a IGMP packet it will learn the MAC Address of the destination and the sender so that it can look at its table and know which port to send it to. IGMP snooping helps reduce cluttered traffic on the LAN.
